If you’ve spent much time around Fork in the Road Trip, you already know how I feel about travel: the best trips aren’t necessarily the most expensive ones, the most luxurious ones, or even the ones that go perfectly according to plan.
Sometimes the best stories come from the plan working beautifully.
And sometimes they come from watching the plan burst into flames somewhere between the airport, the rental car counter, and a hotel reservation that apparently exists only in theory.
That idea is a big part of a new project I’ve been working on: Wheels Up, Windows Down, a travel podcast I’m co-hosting with Jennifer from Jennifer’s Path.
So, What Is Wheels Up, Windows Down?
At its core, it’s two travelers talking about what travel is actually like.
Not just the polished Instagram version.
We’ll talk about the trips that went exactly the way they were supposed to, the places that exceeded expectations, and the moments that remind us why we keep packing bags and heading out the door in the first place.
But we’re also going to talk about everything else.
Missed connections. Strange hotels. Road-trip detours. Rental-car adventures. Bad decisions. Good decisions that somehow still turn into bad situations. Last-minute changes. Travel surprises. And those moments when you realize the carefully constructed itinerary has officially left the building.
More importantly, we’ll talk about what to do next.
Because travel isn’t really about eliminating the unexpected. You can plan obsessively and something will still eventually go sideways.
The trick is learning how to travel well when it does.
Stories, Tips, Reviews and the Occasional Travel Disaster
The show won’t just be us trading war stories.
We’ll also get into the practical side of travel: planning strategies, destinations, hotels, airlines, road trips, travel products, tools, tricks, reviews, and the little things we’ve learned from spending a lot of time on the road and in the air.
Some episodes will be funny.
Some will be useful.
Most will probably be both.
And every so often, we’ll probably tell a story that makes you wonder how either of us was allowed to continue traveling unsupervised.
Why Another Travel Podcast?
Because a lot of travel content tends to live at one of two extremes.
There’s the perfectly curated version where every flight is upgraded, every hotel room has an infinity pool, and nobody has ever sprinted through an airport carrying a shoe.
Then there’s the disaster-travel genre, where apparently every vacation ends in catastrophe.
Real travel usually lives somewhere in the middle.
Sometimes you score the incredible room, find the perfect little restaurant, and have one of those days you’ll talk about for years.
Sometimes you’re standing beside a rental car in a parking lot at midnight wondering exactly where your life choices went wrong.
Both are travel.
And both are worth talking about.
Who’s Behind the Microphones?
I’ll be one half of the conversation, bringing the same kind of travel perspective you’ve seen here on Fork in the Road Trip.
Joining me is Jennifer from Jennifer’s Path, who brings her own experiences, stories, opinions, and approach to getting out into the world.
We don’t always travel the same way, which is part of what should make this interesting.
There will be agreement.
There will almost certainly be disagreement.
There may occasionally be judgment.
Especially when rental cars are involved.
